TIMELESS

I woke up this morning and realized today marked the first of December. I guess there's so much going on in the world that I lost track of the days. But me, I like to think of it as losing track of the times. You see, 2016 was a pivotal year, an awakening year, a dividing year. It's as if racism and suppression were kept quiet for so long and someone finally gave them the mic. Yet it wasn't what was said that shocked the country, it was the reverb of the words and the way they resonated with society. Protests, Riots, BLM, White Supremacy groups, what do they all have in common? They're using their voice as a tool to mold perception and enlightenment upon the divided minds of trying times. I chose to lose track of the times because I felt it's pressure and it's urgency crushing my momentum. Instead, I wanted to create a nostalgia so satisfying that time became a feeling. Jōōk was created as an outlet, as an invitation to celebrate black excellence and as a tool to unify those who identify with any diverse culture. Ayrealle and I often sat around and thought about what the party scene was missing. Having gone to college in Chicago, we had our share of neighborhood bars and clubs. We ran across the same issues:

  1. Diverse crowd with pop/techno music.

  2. Hip hop and 90's hits with a disconnected crowd.

  3. Drunken college students mixed with college graduates.

  4. Overpriced all black or all white clubs with an impossible dress code.

We wanted to create something that would uplift our generation and put the innovative, sophisticated, creative minds under the same roof and give them options on how to express themselves. Whether you enjoy our monthly themed dance parties, small business networking events or our live art and performance shows; we want Jōōk to be exactly what you've been missing. We're just two young girls trying to build a platform for you to be yourself and feel the beauty of time as you're surrounded by good music, good drinks and an even better crowd. You see, 2017 will be a year of serenity, integration and celebration.
